I know what I saw!

Love, love, love this video by PasNeos, one of my favorite bands of all time and the video shot by Micah BlosserDigital Storyteller. Really well done live band piece of a song that simply rocks tectonic plates.

Joseph (Imhotep) was the dreamer.. YHWH spoke to him in dreams and he listened intently. The other dreamer, Elihu the son of Barachel, spoke in detail about how YHWH might interrupt our lives with a dream:

For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed; then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword. He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones; So that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food.

“I know what I saw..”

Do you know what YOU saw?

Lists, Documents and Other Essentials From Our Panel

Thanks to everyone who was able to come out to our November 17th Distribution 101 Panel. Below are documents, lists and other hopefully helpful information related to the content delivery process.

~ List of Distribution Essentials ~

There are certain obvious materials that are essential to releasing your film, and other not-so-obvious materials that may earn you gold stars and make your film much more attractive to potential distributors.

Essential:

Feature film on HDCam or digital file

  • Original aspect ratio
  • Native frame rate
  • Bonus points: 5.1 mix

Trailer

  • Bonus points: Additional versions: Clean output (no titles), DME separated

Key art/Poster art

  • 300 dpi
  • Bonus points: separated art layers

Audio output:

  • Channel 1: 5.1 track: Left
  • Channel 2: 5.1 track: Right
  • Channel 3: 5.1 track: Center
  • Channel 4: 5.1 track: Lfe
  • Channel 5: 5.1 track: Left Surround
  • Channel 6: 5.1 track: Right Surround
  • Channels 7+8: Full Mix Stereo L&R
  • Channels 9+10: M&E Stereo L&R

Special note on audio channels: At the very least, you’ll be expected to deliver a Stereo mix, as well as DME separate channels. Preparing the audio configuration properly can go a long way to getting around complications on promotional materials and music licensing. Plan your audio mappings in your sequence accordingly so it will be easier to output separate DME tracks, which can go a long way to enabling clips to be used promotionally without out-of-context music licenses.

Gold Stars:

  • 4×3 pan and scan – does provide additional flexibility for certain outlets, although most now will accept the film letterboxed within a 4×3 frame
  • Audio Commentary – standard for DVD release, easy enough to do on your own
  • Closed captions & Subtitles – not unusual if CC not delivered with the film, but English subtitles may better your odds with distributors if the original language is non-English
  • On set photography and behind the scenes footage/outtakes/deleted scenes
  • Social media outlets & web presence (built-in marketing platforms and hooks)
  • Pre-organized binder of all
    • clearances,
    • releases and
    • music licensing information

Mental Checklist/Timeline

    c) Notes on napkins?
  • Get all talent agreements in place

Production

NAB Grabs 2013 – Episode 2 – Red Giant – BulletProof for Meta

My boy asks me (ever so innocently).. “Is NAB a Christian organization?” And, indeed, NAB likely contains many Christians at work, but no, NAB itself is not – as you may have noticed with Episode 1 featuring the famous atheist, Penn Teller. So, viewer aware!

NAB-ShowHere’s another gig from the NABShow – “Red Giant – BulletProof” Meta Data love (for people who don’t own Adobe Creative Cloud – which includes Prelude for injesting, logging and commenting on Meta.)

NAB Grabs 2013 – Episode 1 – What’s Next Online?

It’s a good time to re-calculate your software and hardware needs as you work on your next film, short or webisode.

It looks like the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) is going to be THE place where the big dogs hold out for their yearly updates. Iterations may speed up with today’s awesome technologies, however, and bring more sizzle to other big shows globally. That’ll be fun, too!

Streaming Live from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. PT, April 8 – 11 at NabShow.com

Show begins at 9 AM Pacific today (Wed. April 10) and tomorrow (Thurs. April 11)

Broadcast Minds™ – Internet Content Creators Talk What’s Next Online –

Speakers: Jim Louderback , Bruce Gersh , Tom Green , Penn Jillette , Shira Lazar

Description: Advancements in the television industry are moving more quickly in the last two years than in the previous two decades. The on-going democratization of technology, social media, and access to the Internet through mobile devices is redefining what it means to be a “broadcaster.” This trend is pushing content creators of all kinds to think differently about how to develop, produce and distribute online video content. Consumers have unmatched access to the niche entertainment programming they want to watch, and now, they have the ability to influence the outcome of online TV shows through real-time social media participation. This session will explore how today’s creative, big-thinking media entrepreneurs are finding new ways to produce TV-quality shows online and build loyal audiences.

3 Point Lighting

By far, the best, quickest schooling on lighting an interview or podcast I’ve ever seen!

Yes, Switch.

Thinking of dropping Final Cut and going with a company that won’t leave you hanging while they half-heartedly (and radically) retool (some of) their software?*

Do it.

I, for one, am a super-happy switcher. I’ve been using Premiere (instead of Final Cut) for several months now and I haven’t been happier as an editor..

And, much more than that, the PRICE! $49.99 per month for the “Creative Cloud” plan gets you EVERYTHING Adobe makes – Photoshop, After Effects (wacky special effects of the tallest order), Audition (Sound design – which I use ALMOST exclusively now in my productions – I do occasionally call upon the superior tools in Apple’s LOGIC, I admit. But, in that case, have actually been considering switching to ProTools.), InDesign (page design and layout), Dreamweaver (websites) and many more

Adobe is storming filmmakers (and, consequently, film festivals) with “the change.” Here they are at Sundance 2013 – adobe_cs7

* Apple once had a little program named “Shake.” Shake was a miraculous compositing program (similar to After Effects) used on many big-budget productions (following), but, for some strange reason (not really, it was purely a bottom-line “development-hours-vs-profit” decision, to be sure), Apple dropped it shortly after aquiring the industry-changing software! In 2006 was end-of-lifed. In 2009 it was erased from Apple.com

Many users of the software felt like this     ->    🙁

Shake has been used in such films as Peter Jackson‘s The Lord of the Rings and King Kong, as well as Harry Potter movies and Cloverfield. It was also used by The Embassy to create a television advertisement for Citroën with a dancing car. Shake was used by Broadway Video for restoring the release of “Saturday Night Live: The Complete First Season” DVD box set. It is also in use by CBS Digital for creating new visual effects for Star Trek Remastered.

Other major productions using Shake include the 2005 adaptation of War of the WorldsStar Wars Episode III: Revenge of the SithFantastic FourMission Impossible 3PoseidonThe IncrediblesHulkDoctor WhoThe Dark Knight and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. – Wikipedia

And Apple seems to have done the same to producers who depended on Final Cut, leaving us in the lurch for a matter of YEARS while they created a big-profit “iMovie” from the various parts of Final Cut and Motion (a newer, weaker compositor).

🙁

So what if Final Cut X works now. Producers still feel jerked around by the stylish, but calculating monolith.

So, THANKS, Adobe!

YouTube Space LA

Food for thought: MMASFY people in the house, you may have noticed our number 1 desire is to inspire YOU to do MEDIA for YESHUA! Well, today I’m especially inspired to share what YouTube is doing to “channelize” their content.. the single most VAST repository of media ever created (besides, of course, the angelic media awaiting our perusal into the ever-brightening future!)… they’re building YouTube Spaces all over the world!

What would it look like if a benevolent benefactor (or 2) would fund a director (like me.. or Jacob Izrael.. or both of us!) who could bring together other online self-taught video creators (mostly delivering their products on Youtube currently) and help them “do their YHWH-exalting dreams?”

YouTube Space LA • YouTube Space London

Would have had an embedded video here, but, due to Youtube’s fortuitous (and wise) desire to cross-promote all of their amazing (albeit strictly secular) Youtube Creators, this one’s not embeddable!

Let your imagination continue to soar. The One who holds the atoms together (and a really, REALLY Creative Guy) is calling us upward and onward.

King Yeshua will surely sponsor similar projects after we clean up the mess the anti-christ is about to make, but IN THE MEANTIME, wouldn’t it be groovy if we could deliver some rockin’-remnant relics for the future to wonder at in amazement?

I can hear them now,

How did they break thru the heavy fog of the prince of the power of the air and make such clear and entertaining statments of King Yeshua’s majesty and wonder!?

So many were saved and encouraged by their majestic and fun video projects!

Etc., etc.

So! Anyone interested?! Call me! Let’s do this!

Nov. Highlights & RED for DSLR Shooters!

Opening up with Dave Dugdale’s interview with Denver CO rental house, 5kinsight.com. In a really accessible and easy-to-understand way, James Drake covers the basics of the RED Epic from a DSLR shooter’s perspective. Highly recommend clicking on this one!

Also, as we are ever grateful for The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson (pray protection and restoration for that man), a new project has us super excited at the Facebook page – something we see as a challenge to believing filmmakers who can’t be silent about their King! The Resurrection! Passion of the Christ, part deux!

Possibly even more challenging to people like me and my friends who constantly talk about “epic Bible-infused feature films” – a fantastic looking epic drama on King David being made in Hawaii by David Cunningham – Day of War – an all-stop-pulled featuring none other than King David!

I’m embedding here, but please consider visiting the website and both learning the model of fundraising they’re doing using a custom crowd-funding engine built into their site.. and throwin’ a few bucks at it yourself!

Day of War – Back the Movie! from Giantkiller Pictures on Vimeo.

As if those 2 amazing films weren’t enough for one post, being a Kansas City producer myself and knowing some of the people involved in this classy production, I can’t recommend this KC-made film highly enough – 3 Blind Saints!

Being a Kansas City producer myself and knowing some of the people involved in this classy production, I can’t recommend this highly enough! Kansas City, Missouri people in tha house, ya gotta support this one!

Oct. Highlights – Pocket Blocking, Left Behind 2.0, 4K for $400 and a Freebie!

A few highlights from this month (from our Twitter and Facebook) –

1 – Wow Alert! “Shot Designer” FREE on your iPhone, Android, PC & Mac! http://nofilmschool.com/2012/10/diagram-shotlist-and-pocket-block-with-the-shot-designer-app/

Although it does cost $20 to upgrade to “unlimited scenes,” it’s still awesome in too many ways to count!

2 – Nicolas Cage Pulls The Ultimate Nicolas Cage. The debonaire and pensive actor will reboot Kirk Cameron’s Christian drama ‘Left Behind’.. http://www.imdb.com/news/ni38770734/

All I have to say is Song of Solomon 4:16. (Matt.21:43-44, Prov.13:2, Heb.12:11, Jms.3:18)

And James 5:7

So, brothers, be patient until the coming of the Master. See, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.

3 – $400 for 4k! (15fps) and for 240 fps 1080! And small… and waterproof! Hm…. http://www.studiodaily.com/2012/10/gopro-goes-4k-in-a-smaller-faster-lighter-camera/

4 – And, for sticking with this post, here’s a freebie for filmmakers looking for that perfect storyboard framing tool (on paper – which matters)… this was a remix I did for a friend of mine who teaches film, Mike, uses this to teach folks how to storyboard their movies –

Right-click and download for future use!

And thank Yeshua (Jesus) today for the weighty responsibility He’s placed on your shoulders to tell stories that get people saved out of darkness!

It’s a big deal!

WWJF – What Would Jesus Film? (WWYF)

Today ends a pretty rough 3 weeks for me and for many who watched as the Libyan US Diplomatic Post in Benghazi became a spectacle of abuse by radical Islamist warriors against the “colonialist regime” better known as the United States of Amerigo Vespucci (more on that later). As to whether Islamist militants are more colonialist and exploitative than any other force to reside on planet Earth (America, notwithstanding) – that’s another post altogether.

So here’s what I’ve been working on – 4 episodes (use the little “playlist” nav to zip thru the videos) in reverse order of appearance 1. “Dishonorable Disclosures” 2. “O, Jerusalem” 3. “9-11-2012” (Benghazi-Gate) and 4. “Iran: Awaiting a Red Line” ->

It ain’t cinema, but it pays the bills and keeps the Republic’s heart beating! And it’s content that’s rather disturbing, I’ll admit. Hence, my going deep with YHWH lately.. questioning the depths of my faith in Him. Do I trust YHWH Yeshua to do true justice in the Earth?

Remember, regarding heaven’s “scroll” for the judgement of the nations..

Revelation of Yeshua 5:1-7 (WEB) I saw, in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals. I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?” No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it. And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look in it. One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; He who opens the book and its seven seals.”

I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. Then He came, and he took it out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

So, with the events of late, which have emphasized the rising tide of an “Islamic Caliphate” (global government strictly adhering to Islamic Shariah Law) throughout the Earth, and having recently studied (and recorded a reading of) the book of Zechariah, I’m more convinced – more than ever before – that we, as a planet, will need heaven’s justice to save us.

There is no other salvation. Period.

So what would Jesus (Yeshua) film at this time in history? Or, really, if He were alive at ANY time and had a camera in hand and crew attending, what would He film?

Would He not film at all and simply kick back and play video games on His iPhone?

Would He write scripts about romantic comedies with no abiding values communicated (some actually seriously impact – and proclaim with Scripture!)…

Or would He write an epic sci-fact thriller which would rattle the bones and transform lives from the core outwards. (Hint: this is where I’m headed, for what it’s worth)

So… I ask you.

What would Jesus Film?

Log in and leave a comment, if you dare!
